EXPERIENCE MUSICAL CANDY MAKING
Would you like to learn and experience Japanese traditional confectionery making?
The sound of musical candy (Tontoko Ame) making is an essential part of local people's lives. Local people are accustomed to seeing well-trained staff members of Matsuya Sohonten, a candy shop founded in 1868, to put on live performances of cutting candies. "Tontoko" represents the rhythmical sound made by the knives when cutting the candy. It is believed that by cutting the candies, misfortune and bad luck are also cut off. You can take a look at a sample of their live performance here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqOQ2ZSePxU
In this tour, you get to wear the traditional Japanese clothes, experience the candy cutting while making rhythmic sounds, and take a small bag of candies to share the joy with your family and friends.
